The Merseyside Live and Learn Group is a project run by and for people with learning disabilities. Members design, plan and run their own programme which gives them a chance to be more independent, make new friends, try new things and learn new skills. The project aims to reduce social isolation, build confidence and give people a chance to connect with each-other.  It is open to anyone with a learning disability who lives in Merseyside.

Some of the activities that we have done so far are Chester ZOO, barge trip, Knowsley Safari Park, Blue Planet Aquarium, cookery sessions, museum visits, cinema trips, walking group, bike riding with Wheels for all, crazy golf, bowling, discos and parties, panto, crafts, mindfulness, judo, dancing classes, money management course, sign language, pool, LFC tour, Llandudno, Blackpool, trying different foods and many more.

In the words of our members: ‘The idea is that you learn when you go out and try different things. We feel more confident, we’ve learned new skills, made new friends and feel safer in my community because we know it better. The project is for everyone and we make people feel welcome. It’s all about commitment, teamwork and supporting each-other’.

Anyone interested in becoming a part of the Merseyside Live and Learn Group can come and meet us on Mondays or Tuesdays at People First Merseyside office.
