In the DAVID Project, members have been working hard over the past few months to create scripts for six short films we will be creating with film-maker Jake Ryan. These films will include: Emergency Card, Organ Donation, Writing a Will, Planning Your Own Funeral, Planning Someone Else’s Funeral and Grief. With these films, the DAVID Project aims to raise awareness of the importance of end of life planning for people with learning disabilities, as well as including people with learning disabilities in these conversations and decisions. In our most recent sessions, Jake has been working with members to look at how we can turn our scripts into films, looking at locations to shoot the films, what props we will need and writing dialogue. Our filming will start at the beginning of July.
Next Week, Wednesday 29th June, The DAVID Project will be hosting a Death Café at our offices in Bootle. This is an event ran by and for people with learning disabilities, as well as their families and carers. Death cafe’s enable people to talk about death, share their experiences, memories, ideas and worries through small group chat and a range of different activities. DAVID Project members are keen to ensure that our Death Cafes help to remove the stigma around death for people with learning disabilities, their families and carers. Our Death Café will be an afternoon drop in session. more information can be found on the poster below.
