We had a really busy week last week with our Cancer Red Flag and Lung Health roadshows. We toured North Yorkshire visiting Scarborough, North Allerton, Harrogate, York and Selby to deliver the training.
Our trainers for the week were Siobhan, Karen, Lisa and Phil. Between them they did an amazing job sharing our important health awareness messages about how to ‘Look After Your Lungs’ and the ‘Red Flag Symptoms of Cancer.’
It has been great meeting the different groups across Yorkshire as well as people working in health services and CCGs.
We had some great feedback from the sessions including:
“It was a breath of fresh air having self advocates deliver the training. They really brought the sessions to life.“
“This training is so important for people with learning disabilities and support staff to help them identify the signs and symptoms of cancer before it is too late.”
One GP told us “This roadshow will make me to think about the way I talk to my patients with learning disabilities about cancer.”
Carl from Vale of York CCG said “I wanted to say a massive thank you to you all for the Red flag events which you delivered last week across North Yorkshire and York. And a wider thank you to everyone who has been involved in developing the video, and help shape the sessions and resources. I was blown away by how good it was and is a model for all training – it was informative, interactive and fun! I know other people I spoke to that attended thought the same.”
We are still looking for venues willing to host our roadshows across the North West of England. If you would like us to come to your group or organisation contact Joanne English on 0151 329 2137 or email joannee@peoplefirst.uk.com
