We are delighted that our ‘Cancer Red Flag’ and ‘Look After your Lung’s projects have been highlighted as good practice by NHS England in the Leder Action from Learning report.

We started the projects in 2018 as a result of the Leder mortality review. We designed some easy read resources for people with learning disabilities to help them recognise signs and symptoms of cancer and to improve knowledge about our lungs.

We also developed a roadshow that would help people with learning disabilities be more aware of changes in the bodies and to “GO AND SEE THE DOCTOR!”

We also made a film about Cancer Red Flag symptoms to help support our messages. The film is on YouTube and available for anyone to watch or to use in training for people with learning disabilities.

Thanks to the success of our pilot project, we are planning to deliver another 50 roadshows across the North West of England and Yorkshire and Humber.

Coronavirus has meant that we have had to delay these roadshows but we are making plans to get out on the road as soon as possible. We have also adapted our roadshow so that we can deliver it online through Zoom. If you would like us to deliver an online roadshow to your group call us on 0151 329 2137
