We had another brilliant Sing and Sign session this week with Helen Andrews. We are all really enjoying learning British Sign Language.

We started again by doing some old favourites like ‘Wonderful World’ and ‘Beautiful Day’ by Michael Bublé. We went on to learn some new ones including ‘Angels’ by Robbie Williams.

Being part of the Bootle Sing and Sign choir is about so much more than learning the signs. We spend time talking with Helen about the background of the signs and how the deaf community have formed them. Working through the songs line by line also helps us to think about the meaning behind the words.

Patrick said “I think we have learnt a lot from Helen, when we work with deaf people, it will help us to focus on them.

Iain said “It makes me happy that other people are learning signs, it makes me feel included.”

Geraldine said “It is very good that we are including our deaf members and all enjoying the music together.”

Paul said “It’s so much better learning face to face rather than on Zoom because we pick up the signs more easily and learn quicker.”

We had a lot of birthdays this week at People First Merseyside. Lesley took charge and led a rendition of Happy Birthday for Karen, Jessica and Joanne. Well done Lesley!

Here are some videos and photos from our session this week.
