The Liverpool HealthFirst Group have received Funding from Liverpool CCG Healthy Liverpool Fund. We aim to train our members to become Health Champions and deliver health messages to other adults with learning disabilities.
We are working with Vivien Mansfield and Suzanne Robinson Primary Health Care Facilitators from the Learning Disabilities Team in Merseycare. They are going to run training for our group over the next 12 weeks on a range of subjects which are in the Every Contact Counts – an Easy Read Version of this was launched last week.
Today was our first session and Vivien talked to everyone about annual health checks and what should happen and what to expect. Vivien has also said that she will help us speak to our GP’s if we do not think we are getting a health check.
We also found out about opticians and met Ruth and Colin from Nightingale opticians and they talked to us about how often we should have an eye test, who is entitled to free eye tests. They explained that if we feel nervous they can come to our homes.
It was a really interesting and informative session and we can’t wait to see what Vivien has organised for next week!
